Slept on this... "Joyous" by Pleasure (1977)

While I’m waiting for WordPress tech support to fix my space upgrade so that I can finally post my MP3s, I figure I might as well post a musical entry for the day.

Earlier this week, I got an email from my old pal Nels Dielman of Nelsdrums.com telling me of a song that was “right up my alley”.

Nels and I used to work at an ad agency, doing work for Lexus.  He was probably one of my favorite art directors I’ve ever worked with – a great eye for design, and good musical tastes culled from many years as a professional drummer.  Unfortunately, he was a bit hard of hearing (too many years of loud drumming?), and I have a very low, quiet voice, so I have a feeling that most of the time he never heard a damned thing I said.  Still, he had lots of good stories, and I always learned a lot from our conversations about music.

The song he recommended most recently was “Joyous” by the band Pleasure.

Turns out, this song was sampled by Janet Jackson on “Free Xone”.

Not sure how I slept on Joyous, but once again, Nels comes through with a great musical tip.  Incredible!  Thanks Nels for givin’ up tha funk!

And speaking of givin’ up tha funk… and the Jackson family… My friend Overton tells me he has an a capella MP3 of Michael Jackson singing “Remember the time” that he’s going to upload to the web soon.  Hurry up, O – give up tha funk!

Thanks, Nels.

My hearing is much better these days, though you are a bit of a soft-talker, Johnny Carson.

Ha! Glad your hearing is better — I’m still trying to beef up my volume (I think my hearing is going now, though too, so i can’t really tell!) Let’s meet up soon — there’s a music project for kids that I want to involve you in. Interested?
